Copenhagen – 5 day diary

January this year a friend and I booked a srprs.me trip. This is a website where you can choose a side of Europe or another continent, you pick a date and that’s all you know. Your destination will be revealed on the day you’re going on the trip. We choose a 5 day trip to the North of Europe.

Thursday 26th July, 2018

5.00 o’clock, time to wake up, ready for this exciting day. We met at Schiphol Airport at 7.30 and were ready with our suitcases to reveal our destination. Somewhere deep down we both had the feeling it would be Stockholm, but we were wrong. At 8.30 we filled in our personal code and saw the destination. It turned out to be Copenhagen, Denmark. A place that has been on my list for a long time.

We were ready for take off at 11.00 o’clock and with only a one hour trip we arrived at Copenhagen Airport. Not knowing anything about this city and not really knowing anything about Denmark this was a nice challenge.

After arriving at the airport we had to take a train to the central station, this was only a 15 minute trip. Our hostel was only a 5 minute walk away, and this hostel was absolutely the nicest hostel I’ve ever seen. I have to admit, it’s a luxury hostel, with a swimming pool, cinema and industrial, clean vibes. We had a mixed dorm with 6 beds.

The first day we walked around and went for dinner at a lovely place called ‘Spuntino‘. We shared a delicious delicious pizza, with truffle added on one side, I really recommend this place. The restaurants looks very clean, has a great balcony where you have a view  on the street.

Friday 27th July, 2018

Time to wake up at 9.00 o’clock, after a great night. With a banana for breakfast and a coffee on the go we walked to Nyhavn. We walked around and made some photos with the coloured houses. We had lunch there with fries and a wrote the two postcards I’d just bought.

Around 15 o’clock we started walking to the botanical garden, where we sat down on a bench and just chilled for a bit.

Later that day we found a rooftop bar in the city center, Illum, which has a variety of bars and restaurants, so there will always be a place you like to eat.

This time I choose a salade and a nice glass of wine.

Saturday 28th July, 2018

For this day we had a plan, we would do a Free Walking Tour at 11 o’clock and chill in the afternoon and have dinner.

The tour started at Radhuspladsen and took 2,5 hours. I really recommend this tour, you’ll learn a lot about the city, culture, language, history and the royal family. We had a British tour guide ‘Simon’, who told us so much about the Danish way of living. He’s a great tour guide and will tell you everything with such enthusiasm.

Of course I’m not going to tell the details about the tour, but it’s an amazing way to get to know the city.

But let’s say this trip is very ‘Hyggenly’.

After the tour we walked some more through the city and ended up on the rooftop again. This time at an Italian place.

This day we went to the design museum, I didn’t take much photo’s to be honest. Later on I went shopping on my own and just chilled in the sun.

Monday 30th July, 2018

This was the most boring day of them all of course. We got up, packed our suitcases, checked out, went for breakfast and waited at the airport. I can’t describe it more special.

But this trip had been amazing, met great people, stayed in a good hostel and got to know so much about Copenhagen. Definitely going back again this year or the beginning of next year to explore more of this city, because I wasn’t done yet.
